Uploading assets to ftrack Review can be done directly from a Review or in the Library. The Library contains all your project assets and has some additional functionalities, including the ability to version your assets and sort them into folders.
Uploading to a Review
Uploading assets directly to a Review is the most straightforward approach.
Simply open a Review and choose the 'Playlist' tab in the right-hand sidebar.
At the bottom of the Playlist tab, click 'Upload Files'. This will open your file browser, allowing you to choose the files you wish to upload.
Once the files start uploading, you will see a progress tab enabling you to follow the upload progress. You can disable and enable it by clicking on the upload icon next to the 'Upload Files' button.
Once the files have finished uploading and transcoding, they will automatically be added to the Playlist and the session, so you can start reviewing them right away.
Uploading to the Library
From the Library, you can organize assets into folders.
This is especially useful if you have a large project with many assets.
Uploading assets
To upload a new media asset, you need to navigate to the Library and simply drag & drop the file into the web browser or click the upload area to browse for the file, choosing 'click here to browse'.
If you upload a video, it will be automatically encoded so that you can view it in your web browser. (ftrack Review supports videos, images, and PDFs.)
Please note: When uploading videos with high resolution, the review proxies generate in stages, which means that the first proxy has a maximum resolution of 720p. If the uploaded media resolution is 1080p or higher, more proxies will generate and become available. You might need to refresh the page to view these proxies in the player. |
Versioning your assets
When you upload the first asset in a project, it will automatically become the first version of that asset. The version number is displayed under the name of the asset.
In the image below, we see an asset with one version:
Uploading a new file with the same name as the existing asset will version up the asset.
When hovering the mouse cursor over the thumbnail, the options menu is accessible at the top right, signified by the '3dots; menu.
Clicking on the '3dots', you can move the Version window around, and it opens a dialog, allowing you to upload a new version, unversion, share and delete the media.
Tip: You can also upload a new version from the vertical Playlist. Open the '3dots' menu of the selected version and choose 'Upload new version'. |
Unversioning your assets
Unversioning means the latest version of the asset will be broken out into its own asset version. For example, if you have 3 versions in your asset, only the 3rd version will be broken out by unversioning, leaving 2 versions as part of the original asset.
Tip: If you want to merge an asset, you can simply select and drag any single versioned asset onto any other named asset. The asset being merged will take the name of the one it is being dropped onto. |
Sharing assets in a Review
You can share media to a Review by selecting 'Share' on each asset individually.
If you want to share multiple media elements, you can select all assets you intend to review using the upper left checkbox of each and then click 'Share' next to the page title.
Using folders to organize your assets
Folders can be used to store a collection of media.
To create a folder, click on the '+ Create Folder' button on the upper right-hand side.
And then enter a Name for the folder.
Folders are displayed above the media assets in the Library, and any asset can be dragged and dropped into the folders. You can also create folders within your folders if you require additional layers of organization for your asset versions.
Please note: If an asset is in a folder, the Options menu item ‘Move to parent’ becomes available which when selected, will move the asset up one folder level. |
If the asset is only one folder deep, 'Move to parent 'will move the asset into the main Library.
Tip: You can select multiple assets in the library and move them all at once to a folder. |
